Contents: The meeting opened with a welcome note by Dr. Kulkarni.

Dr. Romit made a presentation on Wound Bed Preparation and Debridement. He gave a broad overview about:

  • Definition of wound and its types
  • Phases of wound healing namely
  • Inflammatory Phase
  • Proliferative Phase
  • Remodeling Phase
  • Wound bed preparation with emphasis on
  • Restoration of bacterial balance
  • Management of necrosis
  • Management of exudates
  • Correction of cellular dysfunction
  • Restoration of biochemical balance
  • Wound debridement and its types namely
  • Surgical
  • Autolytic
  • Enzymatic
  • Larval
  • Mechanical
He emphasized that the elements that make up the concept of WBP should not be seen in isolation. WBP is a continuous process that requires skill and an understanding of the patient, the underlying cause of the wound and the wound environment.

In the Q & A session, there was a discussion on:
  • Use of different antiseptics in wound bed preparation
  • Use of miscellaneous substances like Turmeric, sugar, honey, etc. in wound Treatment
  • Use of wound sealing agents
  • Wounds due to vascular compromise
The meeting ended with a note of thanks by Dr. Kulkarni who also suggested that there should be a generated list of do's and don'ts for wound management kept in the treatment room.

Contents: The meeting opened with a formal welcome by Dr. Kulkarni. He opined that world is moving towards holistic medicine and that alternative systems of medicine are gaining importance.

Dr. Vishaka made a presentation in Homoeopathy an alternative system of medicine. She gave a broad overview about

  • History and founder of Homoeopathy.
  • Miasms as cause of disease.
  • Principles of diagnosis and treatment.
  • Principles in preparation of homoeopathic medicine.
In the Q & A session responding to queries from members, there was a brief discussion on
  • Safety of homoeopathic medicine.
  • Misconceptions regarding homoeopathy.

Dr. Nadia made a presentation about Dental Care and Hygiene. She enumerated and demonstrated about:

  • Importance of brushing of teeth regularly and good way of brushing Different types of toothbrushes and toothpaste.
  • Dental flossing and how to use dental floss Different types of flossing materials.
  • Regular visits to the dentist.
The highlight of the CME was that she exhibited different types of toothbrushes including electric toothbrushes, flossing materials, toothpicks, etc. and demonstrated the proper techniques of their usage.

In the Q & A session, there was a brief discussion on:
  • Erroneous advertisements about dental care materials.
  • Different types of mouthwashes, the right choice and the necessity to use them.

A Q & A session for topic was well explained and acknowledged by the speaker.

Contents: The welcome note was given by Dr. Kulkarni our CME coordinator and he laid emphasis on how to get all the medical and paramedical staff convinced for their active participation in presenting cases in CME’s The first initiation was taken by out Mrs. Jessima Joseph, registered nurse at First Medical Center.

The CME was related to usage of Pneumoccoal and Meningococcal Vaccines. There was detailed presentation of indications, content, types, dosage methods and side effects of both the vaccines.
In the Q&A session there was brief discussion on the different types of vaccines available for the same bio-genre and their efficacy, recent co-relation of Autism and thiomersal and mercury (contained in vaccines) and contraindication for vaccinations.

Topic: Hepatitis and Influenza Vaccine
Presenter: Nurses – Rohini and Baiju
Details: The case of influenza was discussed, its signs and symptoms and detailed presentation by Ms. Baiju on the dosage, types, contents, indications and contraindications of Influenza Vaccine.

In Q & A session: there was brief Discussion on Influenza Virus and its types, methodology of vaccine preparation, relation to pregnancy and cost factor.

The case of Hepatitis B was discussed, its signs and symptoms and detailed presentation was given by Rohini on the dosage types, contents, indications and contraindications.

In Q & A session: there was a brief discussion on Hepatitis disease in whole about its origin and etiology. Post exposure prophylaxis, child immunization programs, combination vaccines and irregularity of booster dose were other hot topics.

Speaker: Dr. Sanjay Bhalla
Contents: Dr. Sanjay made a presentation on Ear Wax, which is very common in the Middle East, as the life styles and the atmosphere here, both contribute the etiology of Ear Wax. He enumerated on the types of Ear Waxes, their contents, factors, contributing to their production, the various abnormalities, their causes and treatment.
We had a Q&A session, where there were brief discussions on Ear hygiene and their complications, some systemic diseases associated with excessive earwax followed by their remedial measures. Also, Dr. Sanjay emphasized on the myths related to the ear cleaning like hot oil, ear budding etc.

Topic: Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Dry Eye
Presenter: Dr. Arvind Kulkarni
Details: There was a case presentation of an old lady with complaints of redness, watering, discomfort and sandy sensation in both the eyes since 2-3 weeks. After visiting various doctors the lady was treated for conjunctivitis and infection of the eye, but no relief. After a thorough investigation the conclusion arrived to be diagnosed as a case of Meibomian Gland dysfunction.

In the Q & A session there discussions on different types of reasons associated to this condition and also differential diagnosis, as this dysfunction usually presents the same symptoms and signs like other conjuctival disorders, in eye make, blephritis.

Later the advanced treatment modalities were discussed on the case.

Contents: Dr. Nadia Meliani gave a broad overview about oral hygiene, dental plaque & calculus, and their causes including dietary factors & various diagnostic techniques. She spoke about prevention of plaque & calculus, various types of tooth brushes, toothpaste & proper brushing techniques, the importance of dental floss, their types and proper techniques of flossing. The presentation was followed by Q &A. There was a brief discussion about causes of halitosis, bleeding gums and bacteria causing dental staining & caries.

Topic: Case presentation: Spurious Diarrhea
Speaker: Dr. Babu Shersad, Division of Internal Medicine & Nephrology
Contents: This was followed by presentation from Dr. Babu Shersad. He enumerated about a client suffering from chronic diarrhea. The client had visited various doctors including specialists for the complaint of chronic diarrhea, undergone a gamut of investigations and was treated with a variety of drugs, but had found no improvement. After clinical examination, a diagnosis of spurious diarrhea was arrived at. Client was treated with stool softener and a laxative. He was advised proper diet, rich in fiber. After a week of treatment client found relief from his symptoms. Presentation was followed by question & answers and discussion. A brief discussion of differential diagnosis was done. The importance of history taking, PR examination and reassurance to the client was stressed.
